Gone Dark // Coulson, Svetlana, Natasha, Clint Empty Gone Dark // Coulson, Svetlana, Natasha, Clint

Post by Julian Reynolds Tue Jan 27, 2015 9:33 am

The last thing he remembered was walking through a quite dark corridor with his Compound Bow ready to shoot. He was supposed to watch over the small team, that was on a mission in an old factory building and he had taken his place on one of the many bridges that went all the way through the building and provided access to the heavy machines. But there wasn't much light. He remembered hearing a muffled sound, like someone being right behind him, but before he could even think about moving, his world went totally dark.

His head was pounding to the beating of his heart. He had a terrible headache. Julian slowly opened his eyes, thinking that it was all just a dream. But as he looked around the small, dark room, the Agent had no idea where he was, nor how he got here. He was in what appeared to be a small cell, lying on the hard, cold ground. He reached for his pounding head, letting his hand rest on his temple. The instant his hand touched his skin he felt blood slowly seeping down the side of his head, coming from a small wound close to his fingertips. Someone obviously knocked him out with  a heavy blow to his head. He also felt a chain around his wrists, keeping him tied to the floor.

Julian didn't even think about sitting up. He needed a moment to get his act together and overcome the pain of his headache. Questions were running through his mind: Who took him? Where was he? And did anyone know he was missing? What did his kidnapper want with him?

But all those unanswered questions were only making his headache worse. So he focused on only one question: How the hell could he get out of this situation?

TAG:

NOTES:

An agent and his team had gone dark without, that usually means that something terrible must have happened. SHIELD agents don't just go dark without warning, and when such situations happen the usual explanation was that the entire team had either been captured and/or are dead.

Fury wanted Coulson to handle the investigation on what happened and to recover survivors or bodies. Coulson wanted to recover survivors but in his mind the chances were low and he was preparing to recover corpses to bring back. Coulson would also have to recover any tech the team had on them to prevent it from falling into the hands of unsavory characters.

Fury however did not inform Coulson on what the mission had been about, Coulson had tried asking but Fury stated it was irrelevant. Fury was keeping the missions goals a secret, and Coulson knew that asking Fury for more information would simply be useless, thus he decided that he would have to find out what the mission was about some other way.

That was for latter though, first goal was to recover survivors or corpses, second recover technology and the final one was to find out what happened.

Coulson was now mentally trying to decide what he would need for this mission. The Bus was too big and noticeable for this sort of operation, thus he would have to use some other method of transport. Quinjets had cloaking on them, so those could work.

Now for agents, Coulson would need combat capable operatives to secure the area, he would also need tech specialists to recover any technology the team had on them and finally he would need a medical team in case they found any survivors.

Coulson decided he would not bring his team, he would have them on stand by on The Bus in case things got hot and he needed to be extracted from the situation rapidly. While the bus was too big and noticeable to be used to move in to the location, he could still use it as a command and control center.

So transportation had now been decided, Coulson also had a idea on what his strike teams composition would be, but the question was now whom would be on the team.

As he tried to figure out whom his team would be consisted of, Coulson walked back to his office and took a seat. Coulson then turned on his computer and started to browse through SHIELD's personnel file, looking for the right agents for this mission.

strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.

A groan left Natasha's lips as she shut the door to her room and sunk down onto her bed. It had been almost a week since her last mission and the woman was going stir-crazy. She'd done all the normal things that normal people did while waiting for missions; she'd gone on long runs, hit the clubs, hung out with her fellow Avengers. She enjoyed the sense of normality that these ventures brought to her life, but she was still bored. None of these things brought any sort of adrenaline rush into her life, and that was the biggest thing that Natasha missed when not on missions. If this dry spell was going to continue any longer, she was seriously going to consider going skydiving. At least that would bring about some sort of thrill.

Sighing, she pushed herself up off the bed and walked over to her wardrobe. From one of the shelves from the very back, she pulled out a red shoe box. A tender smile curling up the corners of her lips, she opened it up and for a long moment just stared at the red pointe shoes nestled in amongst the crimson tissue paper, remembering all the times she had performed. Over the years she had gone through many pairs, but this was the pair that she had bought when she first defected, and these were reserved for special occasions. Taking them out and nestling them in amongst her gym clothes, she shoved the parcel into her gym bag and left the room. It had taken a lot of pleading, but Maria had finally allowed a little studio to be built alongside the gym. Natasha had also managed to get access restricted to only a select few; she didn't want random agents coming in to gawk as she danced. She wasn't ashamed of her ballet past, but the less people that knew anything to do with her past, the better.

Sliding her access card through the reader, a confirmation beep sounded and she walked into the studio, smiling to herself. Stripping down and changing into a pair of shorts and a tank top, she stretched herself out, allowing her muscles to lengthen and warm up. Finally, she slipped on her pointe shoes and walked over to the little CD player, popping in the Swan Lake one and skipping to her favourite track. As the music filled the room, Natasha smiled, letting it wash over her. This was her escape from the realities of the world. She would never give it up. Finally, she did a slow spin and began to dance. The dance wasn't an overly elaborate one, but she was intending to progress to harder dances as the day wore on. This was just going to be her warm-up.

the sky turns gray

and everything is screaming

He had a high urge to shoot something. Stuck around the base, Clint was finding that his patience was starting to wear among the younger agents that he had been forced to socialize with since there were no missions calling him away, and the practice targets he had been shooting at since the last mission they took were starting to become less and less fulfilling in their goal of letting him practice and to relieve that need. If things kept going like this, he'd broke by the end of the week buying cheap bash bottles to relieve his need for action by bashing bottles over the heads of any agent he passed that wasn't Natasha. If anything, Natasha was the one he'd share said bash bottles with, because he knew she had to be as on the verge of idle madness as he was. His bow and arrows were looking more friendlier than usual and he could find some red spray paint, after all...

The male frowned. No, he shouldn't. He liked his job a little too much to go that rogue. The easy targets would have to do for his practice, not that he couldn't always hit the bull's eye already. Seriously, the only reason he kept practicing was because it was where he could get fully in his element and he was not one to let his bow go unattended and his skills unpolished. He liked his reputation just the way it was very much, and had all intentions of keeping it that way.

Regardless of what he shot at and what he didn't, he had to get out of this room. With a loud sigh, he finally got up, briefly fumbling about for his access card with the intent to head to the gym. He could've slept the day off as well, had he not already more than enough energy to run him for a good many hours. Sleep was the last thing he'd be able to force himself to do - that even more than restraining his boredom from coming out as shooting at someone he wasn't supposed to be shooting at. He could probably find Tasha around the gym after all, and she was probably his best bet for boredom alleviation at that exact moment unless taking it out in some other form in the gym came to mind when he got there, which was unlikely considering his mental state right now. He'd done everything this little prison of a base had to offer his mission- and interesting-target-deprived mind could offer. Socializing with the one person on this base that wouldn't want make him want to try out explosive arrows with his bow would be something of a blessing at this point.

Reaching the gym, Clint was suddenly reminded of the studio that Maria had finally built on the side of the gym. He knew enough to guess where he could find Natasha now, and he smiled slightly, shaking his head. Only certain agents had access to the studio, and it couldn't hurt to try his card. Swiping it at the reader, he was taken by surprise at the beep of confirmation that confirmed his card had been accepted. Finally, the smile he had started to wear earlier returned in a little bit of a bigger force. I'd bet at least two bottles of Vodka to her that it was definitely her. He didn't have another explanation for his card being accepted, because it wasn't like he had been the first one jumping for his name to be on the list of agents allowed in the small studio, but he wasn't going to dwell on that just yet. He had a different idea, because he could hear the gentle tunes of music in the studio and he was already betting that it was Tasha. Quietly slipping in so as not to alert his partner that he'd arrived, he saw her already dancing to the music and smiled softly. Busted, he thought with a small smirk. She had put access on his card and he could definitely guess why and he knew exactly why only certain agents had access. To prevent random agents from doing exactly what he was doing. The idea of what face she'd pull at him when she noticed he walked in had him already smirking.

Bring me my bow of burning gold
Bring me my arrows of desire
->>>------->   ->>>------->   ->>>------->   ->>>------->   ->>>------->

Julian closed his eyes for a moment, hoping it would ease the pain. It worked for a second or two and then it was back, tormenting him. Not that he was the whining type of man, but this headache was killing him! Well, figuratively speaking of course. But it definitely kept him from thinking straight. Unfortunately that was exactly what he needed to do right now. Because as far he was concerned, it wasn't only his life that was on the line here. He didn't know what had happened to his team, yet.
The fact that he seemed to be alone in his cold prison was worrying though. There wasn't single sound to be heard, besides the swooshing sound of his pulse in his ears. It was a pounding sound... and it was so darn distracting.

Julian opened his eyes again, letting them adjust to the dimly lid room. There were no windows, so Julian had no idea what time of day it was. On the concrete ceiling was just an old industrial lamp that didn't give that much light. It was enough for Julian to scout his surroundings though. Being a trained SHIELD Agent, Julian knew that his first task would always be to scout his surroundings, scan the area for possible exits and in his case: for a possible way out.
In the corner, close to the door, was a ventilation shaft in the ceiling. Apart from the door, that was the only way out of this room. He would take his chance, if he got one. For now though, there wasn't much he could do.

A heavy sigh left his lips and he closed his eyes again. He tried to get the chains off his wrists, but they were too tight. He couldn't just slip out of them, but Julian tried anyway. It was the only thing he could do, since he was lying alone in the room. However, he began to wonder if someone would come for him. There had to be a reason why he was captured. If they didn't have plans with him, they would've just killed him right on the spot. Since they didn't, he knew there was a chance of survival and freedom.

Taking his mind off the unanswered questions, Julian let his thoughts wander to something else. Svetlana came to his mind... and how he left the Base, telling her he'd be back soon. Thinking about her gave him some comfort. He had to make it out of this mess alive. For her.
It only took a few more minutes and Julian passed out again.

Coulson sat in his office, trying to decide whom should be on the team he would organize for this recovery mission. Coulson would have labelled it a rescue mission if he had a bit more confidence in the survival of his fellow agents, but as much as Coulson wanted to believe that they were still alive, he was not going to bring up false hope.

Coulson knew he would need highly trained specialists for this mission since one highly experience team of agents has already disappeared in the region.  Well since Coulson was leaving the Bus outside of the region as a command and control center, May and Ward would not be viable candidates for this mission, he needed them on the Bus.

Well maybe Garrett? Coulson thought for a moment before deciding the mission was too delicate to have Garrett on the team. Garrett was the guy you brought to kick down doors, this mission required a bit of fineness. The team must not attract the attention of whomever attacked the first team and if you want inconspicuous, Garrett certainly was not that.

After a few more moments of trying to decide whom he should bring as his teams specialists, he decided on Strike Team Delta which consisted of two of S.H.I.E.L.D's top specialists, Natasha Romanova and Clint Barton. If problems occurred, Coulson trusted that Romanova and Barton would be able to handle it.

Coulson now brought up Romanova and Barton's files to check if they were currently on a assignment and was pleased to see that the two were currently on the base and were not assigned to a separate mission.

Coulson now needed a medical team, so he made a note to contact Doctor Orlova once he talked with Natasha and Clint. He would have to ask for Doctor Orlova's help in choosing whom to bring as his medical team.

Taking out his phone, Coulson sent an message to the phones of Natasha and Clint. Urgent developments in Ukraine, meet me at my office, we got to talk. Coulson then sent another message to Doctor Orlova. My office, need advice on organizing a medical team for urgent operation.

Once Coulson sent the messages he started to look up maps of the region he would soon be operating in, trying to figure out a game plan. Coulson would need to find a location to insert the team, where to investigate and most  importantly he needed to arrange an evac from the area if things go wrong. One team had already been lost and Coulson was not willing to lose another team.

shot through the heart & you're to blame
DARLING YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Looking at her watch, Svetlana groaned internally. Time, it seemed, had come to an absolute standstill. She didn't like doing rounds. She liked doing rounds even less when she was severely lacking in sleep and had been deprived of her second coffee of the morning because the idiot interns didn't know how to handle a coffee machine without breaking it. Now they had to wait for the mechanics to drag their butts in and fix them. And seeing as the mechanics had sworn that the next time the medics broke the machines, they'd be on their own, Sveta wagered it was going to be a very long wait. She bit back a scowl. At this rate she'd have to go stealing coffee from the science labs, and that was always dangerous.

Her beeper went off and instantly her eyes flew down to the red plastic gadget attached to her hip. Saved by the (annoyingly shrill) bell. Unclipping it, she began to read the message, a relieved smile curling up the corners of her lips with every word. She was being summoned. To a case. She had gotten her way out of doing wretched rounds after all. "I need to go. Orders from above," she told Oscar, shoving all her paperwork into the arms of her intern. "Get these to Dr Streiten right away or you will find yourself hanging upside down in Deputy Director Hill's office while Agent Moran gives you one of her famous lectures. And you wouldn't want that, would you Oscar?" she uttered calmly, a small evil smile creeping up onto her lips. Turning on her heels, the brunette jogged out of the medical ward, grimacing. God she hoped they'd fix the coffee machines soon; the longer she went without her precious caffeine, the crankier she got.

She slowed down as she got to Coulson's office, taking a moment to straighten herself up before she knocked. She might feel like she hadn't slept in a month, but that was no reason to show up to her best friend's fiance's office looking like a hobo. She was the assistant head surgeon after all, not some lowly intern that couldn't make coffee; she had standards to uphold. Finally, having decided that she looked presentable enough that any agents present wouldn't run screaming from the room, Svetlana knocked on the door. "Agent Coulson, it's Dr Orlova." She waited for an invite before entering the room. She couldn't help the weary but grateful smile that crossed her lips as she walked over to his desk and stood in front of him. "You're a lifesaver. Any longer and I would have been sending everyone to Moran's office with stupid requests so she'd string them up from the ceiling. Patients and staff alike." She sunk down into one of the chairs opposite the desk, and gave a sigh, turning to the task at hand. "The mission - I have a few perfect candidates in mind. How big a rescue are we talking?"

strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.

Closing her eyes as the music washed over her, Natasha continued with the dance, the dance ingrained on her memories so well that she didn't even have to look at what she was doing. It was all memory. One fluid motion after the next, pirouettes after arabesques, all in time to the sultry orchestra tones. Memories of her childhood performances washed over her and at first Natasha smiled, remembering fondly her ballet past despite the pressures that were on here. I am one of 28 young ballerinas with the Bolshoi Ballet. Training is hard, but the glory of the soviet culture, and the warmth of my parents…my…parents…makes up for… With each perfectly executed move, her memories of her ballet childhood became more muddled in her mind, and the redhead faltered in her next step. No… That’s not right… Memories of a training facility that certainly wasn't the Bolshoi Theatre, raced through her mind and Natasha bit down hard on her lip, a shiver running down her spine. I am one of the 28 Black Widow agents with the Red Room. Training is hard, but the glory of the soviet supremacy, and the warmth of my parents…all my parents…makes up for… She gave a choked sob as the final bars of the piece played and she finished the blasted dance. Bringing a hand to her mouth to stop any more sobs escaping, Natasha took in a deep breath, letting it out slowly. Pushing all the Red Room thoughts firmly out of her mind, she ran a hand over her hair and opened her eyes.

She blinked in surprise as her green eyes landed right on Clint. She wrestled down the anger that she felt at being interrupted on such an intimate moment, and managed to give him a weak smile. It wasn't his fault that he'd come at a time when she was being haunted by memories. Had he come at any other time, she would have been more than happy to put on a show, and just because her past was beginning to creep up and frighten her, that didn't give her a right to take her fear and anger out on Clint. "You’ll have to excuse me," she uttered softly, clearing her throat and swallowing down the lump in her throat. "Past missions catching up with me," she lied expertly, sliding down onto the floor into the splits. She looked up at him, cocking her head to the side. "Do we have a mission? Or were you just missing me?" she asked with a playful grin. She was going to ignore that little episode. She was going to pretend like nothing had ever happened and that she was fine; was going to continue acting her usual cheeky self around Clint. He knew about most of her past, but this was a part she didn't want to share with anyone. Not even him.

the sky turns gray

Clint quietly leaned against the closest wall, resting one foot and allowing a small, soft smile to settle across his face as he watched Tasha in her element. So, it wasn't a way to blow off steam, but it was a whole lot better than running around trying to keep his own cool with the other agents. This was Tasha...

No sooner had the thought formed in his mind and he processed it, something seemed off. Smooth movements that came without pause turned into a faltered step. The male stood, concern starting to creep across his features. He knew a hell of a lot more about Tasha than most, but not everything. It was still more than enough to tell him that something was wrong. Something had come across that messed with her. The idea made it hard to fight a shiver that threatened to run down his spine. He knew too well that feeling now, and the last thing he wanted to see someone go through that feeling, much less go through it again himself.

The male barely heard the last bars of the song play because his attention was fully devoted to Tasha, and he took a few hesitant steps towards her before stopping as the redhead looked at him. In the back of his mind, a bit of guilt for being there at such a time without giving her a notice settled across him, but that was nowhere near enough to wipe the concern from his features. The smile he was given was weak at best, and he finally approached her, in the back of his mind noting the silenced vibration of an alert from his phone stashed away in his pocket and ignoring it, as she apologized and gave a short explanation before sitting down, not that the explanation was enough for him. "Tasha... You sure you're alright?" She wasn't one to just loose her focus like that, even if something had suddenly come to her mind. That just didn't seem like her. He did pull his phone as he sat down near her side for the simple fact that he knew it was more than likely important. As he read over the message from Coulson and heard her final question, he did manage a small smile. "Well, my reason was that I needed to be kept from taking out some of our own, and I missed you, but, as a matter of fact, we actually do have a mission," he said, showing her his phone and the message from Coulson, "Apparently Coulson needs the two of us for something important."

Meanwhile miles away from the SHIELD Base Julian was unconscious for an unknown period of time. He didn't know how much time had passed when he finally came to again. The first thing he noticed though, was the light. It was much brighter in his cell than it was before and he wasn't alone anymore. As Julian slowly sat up, blinking a couple of time to adjust to the brightness, he saw that two heavily armed men had been placed with him. One was standing near the door, watching him with cold eyes, the other one was already on his way to him. He didn't look much more friendly.

Julian tried his best not to look too worn out, but he figured these guys wouldn't care if he dropped dead on the spot. He had no idea what to expect, what was going to happen now... or what they even wanted with him. For now it was just one big mystery and it wouldn't get any better.
“Nareshti prokynuvsya” the man in front of him said in Ukrainian. “Khto ty? Khto vy pratsyuyete? Shcho vy shukayete?”

Even though he had been sent down here to observe what was going on in this factory, Julian did not understand a single word of what the man was saying. He could only guess, but that wouldn't get him very far. He was used to having a translator in his team, an agent who understood this language. Unfortunately he wasn't here. Julian didn't even know what had happened to his team, yet. Maybe he could try English with him and get an answer.
“I don't speak Ukrainian.” he replied, his voice sounding a little hoarse. “What do you want with me?”

The Ukrainian man before him wasn't happy with Julian's reply, he could see that in the man's cold, angry grey eyes and it was written all over his face, which he did not mask. He raised his hand and hit Julian across the face hard. Julian swallowed the pain, closing his eyes for only a second and then looked at the man just as serious as he was looking at him. The man repeated his question, but Julian didn't reply. When the man wanted to hit him again, the second man stepped in.
“Stop. Vin ne rozumiye.” he said, causing the man before him to get up and turn toward him.

The two men exchanged a few more words in Ukrainian and then the man who hit Julian left the room. Julian leaned his head against the cold wall behind him, closing his eyes. His cheek really did hurt a little.

"Guess I should add this to the list of times I have saved our lower ranked agents from a painful and slow demise." Coulson joked for a moment before turning serious and adding "SHIELD has lost an entire team in the Ukraine, they just gone dark, I need you to come up with a medical team urgently, I already got agents to deal with any hostile complications in the area." One of the best team of specialists SHIELD had in its employ Coulson mentally noted, if any team had a chance to getting agents out of this mess alive, it would be this team.

"I will not lie, chances are that this mission is a recovery mission and it is quite likely we will not be able to rescue anyone." Coulson said with a frown, he did not like the words he was saying, but it was the truth, false hope was just as bad as no hope. Once hope is discovered to be false, it destroys moral even quicker than a total lack of hope. "But even then, I want one of your best medical team, in case we actually manage to rescue survivors." Survivors would likely be in a bad condition so one of the best medical team SHIELD has would likely be needed if they even stood a chance of getting back people  from the first team alive.

"Even though probality tells us that the agents are likely dead, we owe it to them to do everything we can to rescue them and if that is not possible, retreive their bodies for a proper burial." Coulson then added "Well we will be operating in the Ukraine, so knowledge of the local language could be helpful." Coulson personally only had a basic understanding of Russian, which according to most would be enough for him to have a basic understanding of Ukrainian, if he really needed something to be translated on the mission, Coulson could always ask Romanova for help. Romanova's knowledge of the local language was another one of the reasons why Coulson wanted her to be on his team for this rescue/recovery operation.

shot through the heart & you're to blame
DARLING YOU GIVE LOVE A BAD NAME
- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Crossing one leg over the other at the knee, Svetlana gave a low chuckle. "I think that you alone have single-handedly saved more rookies, interns, and lowly agents than this entire organisation as a whole." Out of the upper echelon, Coulson was by far the kindest. Whereas Maria had no qualms about stringing up agents up in the gym, Patience had no qualms making people disappear without a trace, and Fury had no issues setting Fluffy onto anyone that even remotely annoyed him, Phil was the one that saved the poor fools from such fates. "One of these days we'll get you a medal for such an achievement."

The woman couldn't help the frown that settled upon her expression when Phil explained that more likely than not, they'd be recovering corpses instead of rescuing agents. It was a sad fact in the life of field agents that you could never know when your last day on the job would be, and if your current mission was your last. It was one of the reasons why she hadn't ever considered becoming a full-fledged field agent. Going out into the field every once in a while for a rescue and recovery was enough to satiate her need for adrenaline, but she would never want to do it full-time. Not only did she not relish the fact that she might be killed every time she took a mission, she couldn't bear the fact that her family would receive a condolence letter should anything happen; it would break her grandparents' hearts.

"We'll get them all back, Sir. Can't let the Ukrainians keep our boys all to themselves," she replied, running a hand through her hair and chewing on the inside of her lip. They had to get them back. They just had to. Even if only to bring them back for a proper burial; no one deserved to be left forgotten in a foreign country, especially if they died fighting like a hero. "My team will be ready to deploy the moment you say. And Ukrainian won't be a problem. I'm fluent in both it and Russian and would be happy to translate for my team, if need be." A soft sigh left her lips. She'd been wanting excitement, but a recovery wasn't exciting - it was just sad. However that wasn't going to stop her from going out there and doing all she could to get the field agents back, preferably in one piece. She withdrew her phone and her fingers flew over the keys as she tapped out a message to Layla and Warrick requesting they drop everything and join her in the mission. "When do we leave?" she asked Coulson, looking up from her phone for a minute before continuing to type.

strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.

A memory fragment of her training facility flashed through her mind and Natasha's breath caught in her throat. She moved from her splits position, sliding her legs together and then bending over them to stretch out her back. In reality it was to hide her face and allow herself to compose her thoughts and feelings before she proceeded. The longer she worked for SHIELD, the more the memories she had of her past life were pushed to the back of her mind, and it wasn't often they surfaced. However the past couple of weeks, these memories had been coming to haunt her more and more. Normally it happened at night, and she relived the terrors in her sleep. The training. The orphanage fire. Her first kill. She woke up terrified each night, but she kept her fear hidden from everyone, even from Clint. She'd wanted to tell him, and so many times she'd picked up her phone to text him at 3am, but ultimately she'd stopped herself. She was stronger than this; this was all just temporary weakness that she had to fight through.

Taking a deep breath and pushing all memories and thoughts to the very back of her mind, she raised her head and looked up at Clint when he voiced his concern. "I'm fine," she replied with a slight smile, pushing herself up off the floor and taking a couple of steps towards her partner. "Please don't worry about me Clint, I'll be ok. I'll tell you all about it some other time, I promise," she added, reaching out to touch his cheek for a moment, before dropping her hand. One of these days she'd tell him what exactly was bugging her; her deserved to know about her past. He knew some of it, the parts that his clearance let him see, but he didn't know the full extent. He didn't know about Red Room, or her training there. She'd wanted to tell him, but she didn't know how to broach the subject. Added to that was the fact that she hated thinking about what her own government had done to her, so she never talked about the matter unless absolutely necessary.

The redhead grinned as he said that he had actually missed her, her nose crinkling as she chuckled at the comment, before walking over to her gym bag. "You only miss me because I'm the only one you can get blackout drunk with who won't hold it against you the next day," she teased as she shot him a grin over her shoulder, shaking her head. Grabbing her jeans and a t-shirt from the bag, she signaled with her finger to Clint to turn around. She had no qualms about being naked in front of him, but not when they had a mission to prep for. As she changed, she grabbed her phone from her bag and checked Coulson's message, frowning at the mention of Ukraine. She wondered what it could be. She knew the war was still going on, but SHIELD had been trying to stay out of it as much as possible. She figured they were just going to let them sort it out themselves. Undoing her pointe shoes and slipping on a pair of socks and sneakers, she pulled all the padding from them to allow them to dry out and popped them in her bag. Finally she slung the bag over her shoulder and made her way to the door. "You can turn around now," she uttered with a laugh. "C'mon, I don't want to keep Coulson waiting if it's urgent."

the sky turns gray

and everything is screaming

To be fair and honest, Clint was convinced she was lying, even if he couldn't be entirely certain, but he didn't push the subject any further, especially when she said she would tell him sometime. When she was ready. As concerned as he could be and was, he respected her and her wishes. The last thing he was going to do Tasha was push her to a point where she didn't want to be. He had no reason to ask before she was prepared to tell him. All in good time, he'd learn what she wanted him to, and he knew he'd be the same way - was the same way. Everyone had secrets. That was just a fact of life. They'd come out in their own pace and when the time was right. I'll always worry. Even still, he couldn't help but think that he would as he stood again.

Pushing off those thoughts so that they could be attended to later at a more proper point in time, he smiled as teased him. Catching her grin over her shoulder, he shook his head and let out an exaggerated sigh. "Fair enough on the point that you're the only one that won't judge me, but you know that's not the only reason," he shot back with a small smirk as he turned to respect her wish to have some degree of privacy while she changed. "Although a drink might not have hurt. I swear if I was left to my own devices much longer, I'd have at least a few agents pinned to the wall by now," he added, grinning as he joined her on her way to the door, but falling serious again as she brought up the mission and giving a nod of agreement as he started with her to Coulson's office to find out what they had been summoned for.

"Alright, let's see what this is all about," he muttered, knocking on the door of Coulson's office to announce that they had arrived before getting the door and stepping back to let Tasha in ahead of him. "Coulson, Dr. Orlova," he greeted, giving a respectful nod to both already in the office after following Tasha inside. "I understand we got a mission on our hands?" he asked, turning his attention back to Coulson to hear the news on what needed to be done.

Bring me my bow of burning gold

->>>------->   ->>>------->   ->>>------->   ->>>------->   ->>>------->

With his eyes still closed, Julian sighed inwardly. He had no sense of time at this moment, he didn't know where exactly he was, he didn't know what happened to his team and he had no idea if SHIELD already knew that they'd gone dark. Julian was worried but at the same time he was angry with himself for letting this happen. He should've known that something was off, he shouldn't have send his team in to investigate any further and he shouldn't have been away from them.
At the time it seemed like the right decision, but thinking about it now, he was upset. He knew that blaming himself did not help anyone. Not him and not his team, but still... he did it anyway. He couldn't help it.

“Think positive... I'm still alive... they will be, too. Why else would I be here?” Julian thought to himself, just to get his mind off those dark thoughts. For the moment it would keep him sane, but he needed to find a way out of this mess. And fast. But firstly he wanted to know what they wanted with him. He had a feeling that he was to be interrogated. He just didn't know what kind of methods they'd use to get him talking later on.

All he could do for now was wait. And he hated waiting. He was always so impatient when it came to things like this. When he was on a mission, working with his bow, he was patience in person, but not in situations like this. How long would they keep him here? What was going to happen to him? His team?

"Maybe I should start making the rookies start contributing to my retirement fund every time I save them. Considering the amount of saving I do, I think I will be able to retire within a month or two." Coulson joked though retirement was not coming anytime soon, SHIELD was his life, it had been his life for as long as he could remember and while he had many problems with the organization, Coulson believed it was a neccesary organization. SHIELD may have problems, but the world needed SHIELD and SHIELD was doing the best it could to protect the world. "Actually instead of my retirement fund, I should use them to fund new items for my many collections."

"Indeed we will get them back, we protect our own." Coulson said with determination, SHIELD protected it own and did not take it lightly when someone targets them. Rescue and recovery was almost always the first priority in these situations then if possible retribution. Angering SHIELD as an organization was a foolish move, SHIELD is a massive and powerful organization which can easily make the lives of its enemies living hell. "Though considering the civil war, the hostile forces could be nearly anyone, the Ukrainian's, the Russian's, or even some enterprising third party taking advantage of the chaos and unrest."

"That is good news, well we will be deploying as soon as I can arrange for transportation and get a recovery plan sorted, we can't just run in blind." Coulson then sighed when he realized that SHIELD was now nearly blind in Ukraine, the team that went dark was one of the only teams SHIELD currently had in the region. Coulson would likely have to call in a few favours to obtain some up to date intel on what the hell is going on in that nation.

Coulson then started to look up maps of the region once more and tried to remember which organizations had the best intel on the region and which of those organizations owed him favours. While Coulson was attempting to formulate his recovery plan, he heard his door open once more and looked up, Romanova and Barton had arrived.

"Barton, Romanova, thank you for coming at such short notice,  but we got a developing situation." Coulson greeted and nodded in acknowledgement of their presence. "A SHIELD team has just gone dark in the Ukraine and we are going to move into the region to investigate what happened and recover their bodies." Coulson once more used the word recover, it was not a word he liked all that much, he preferred rescue but the odds said that this was going to be a recovery.

Svetlana chuckled at his words, shaking her head. "I do believe you'd get tired of retirement rather fast, Sir. You and Maria both would. I give it a month before you are wanting your old jobs back," she joked, pushing herself out of the chair and standing up. She pretended to think upon her last statement before shaking her head. "Actually, I give her three weeks. Maybe two and a half." She couldn't help the smile that crossed her lips as she thought of Maria, grey and wrinkly, still shooting enemies and hanging up incompetent rookies upside down in her office. Of course by that point Maria and Coulson had some grandchildren to occupy their time instead and the thought of them building forts and baking cookies made her bite hard on the inside of her cheeks to prevent a smile. She shouldn't really be having such thoughts, especially not while talking about a mission but she couldn't help it; Maria was a dear friend and Sveta wanted her to be happy.

"Unless there is anything else, Sir, l should go and prepare my team. We'll be in the medical wing awaiting your call." Time to go prep Layla and Warrick on the mission ahead. There were plenty of talented agents that she could have picked on the mission, but she wanted no one but these two. Not only did they all have a brilliant working dynamic with each other, they were all assistant heads which meant they were very good at their jobs. Much better than anyone else she could have picked. Let the Heads worry about everything; they were going to save their boys from evil foreign clutches.

As Agent Romanova and Agent Barton came in, Sveta nodded a hello to them and gave a murmur of greeting. Her hand was on the door handle when suddenly a thought struck her and she turned. "Forgive me, Agent Coulson, but who are the agents we are going after?" She wasn't sure what compelled her to ask such a question, because it really shouldn't have mattered who was on it. But something tugged at her and made her wonder if someone she knew would be on the mission. She frowned slightly as she nibbled on her lip. She hoped the unease was simply due to the mission ahead, but something deep down told her it wasn't just that. Something was really wrong.

strange things did happen here

No stranger would it be

If we met at midnight In the hanging tree.

Natasha flashed him a grin, rolling her eyes good-naturedly at him. "Whatever are you going to do without me, Clint?" she asked, teasing in her tone. "I don't think SHIELD would be able to handle you all on their lonesome. It'll be down at least half of its population within the first two weeks," she commented, quirking an eyebrow at him. "You'd make it onto SHIELD's Most Wanted list and of course I would have to be the one to go and get you back from your boredom-induced rampage. Which wouldn't work very well, because it'd just end up being Budapest all over again," she commented with a smirk, shooting him a sideways glance to watch his reaction. Ah, Budapest...

She nodded a hello to Dr Orlova as she and Clint entered Coulson's office, murmuring a polite "dobriy den" to the woman as the pair passed her, before turning all her attention to Coulson. "Any known hostile teams in play? Do we know who's behind this?" she clarified. "Or at least does SHIELD have an inkling?" A wave of unease came over her, though Natasha couldn't for the life of her fathom why. It wasn't that unusual for them not to know; half their missions revolved around anonymous hostiles. But her subconscious continued to nag at her: something wasn't right. Pushing the feeling away, she crossed her arms across her chest and looked sideways at Clint before looking back at Coulson. "When do we leave and is it just us or will more agents be joining us?"

Gone Dark // Coulson, Svetlana, Natasha, Clint Empty Re: Gone Dark // Coulson, Svetlana, Natasha, Clint

Post by Clint Barton Fri Mar 06, 2015 12:15 pm

the sky turns gray

and everything is screaming

Clint didn't bother to hide the smile that came at Natasha's words until they entered Coulson's office. He remembered what some might call too well what had happened in Budapest. What SHIELD didn't know about that little mission wouldn't hurt them.. Because it was entirely true that he hadn't been entirely honest when he reported what had happened on that mission, and a lot of things had. He'd reported what was relevant to the mission outcome. Everything else that had happened that was irrelevant and didn't need to be mentioned to explain a few things he'd kept to himself and his memories and Natasha, and he'd kept it that way for as well as he knew.

As for the outlook of the mission that they received from Coulson, it wasn't what any of them wanted to hear, he guessed. Anyone who got used to the idea of retrieving the bodies of their own was someone he would tell to get out of the game, because this work was nothing too terribly short of one. Then again, it was news that they could all deal with later, if they had really lost agents. He didn't want to believe they had until they got out there, but, until they were sure, they had to treat it like they had indeed lost that entire team. A whole team going dark like that without warning was never good news, and nothing good could ever come from such an event happening. And for the questions dealing with the operation, he let Natasha cover them. "Is there anything beyond the usual we'll need?" he added, looking back to Coulson as the question came to mind. He was guessing they were going to be sent in on a full-tactical kind of mindset with the goals to be recover, or, as he really wanted to believe, rescue, but it couldn't hurt to just be careful. He would, of course, take his bow and his firearm as his preferred weapons of choice should they run into hostile resistance, which, given the circumstances, was highly likely.

Besides the facts, there seemed to be an almost tangible unease in the office, and the idea of it made Clint shift his weight on his feet just slightly. He didn't like that feeling, but picking up on it from the others made it hard to brush it off, and it bothered him - bothered him to a point that it agitated him in the back of his mind, not that he dared to let it register on the outside. He could guess why it nagged at him so much - all he had to do was look back however long it had been since... Well, he'd leave that buried in its proper place. He could deal with whatever unsettled memories and feelings he had connected to that mess when the time was right, and that was not during this mission.

NOTES:Well this is just a quick something so we can hurry up and wrap up, move to the next part

"We currently do not have any information that can give us a clue on whom the hostile forces are." Coulson responded to Natasha's question. Coulson honestly had no real clue on whom was behind this attack, but Coulson would make sure SHIELD brought down the their world in retaliation. Coulson will make sure that what ever organization was behind this would suffer, they will have no where to hide, they will be put to the death without mercy. Coulson then added "Nothing of note, but when on the ground I want both of you to be careful, I do not want to lose anymore people to whatever organization we are going against." Coulson knew that Natasha and Clint were both highly competent but he still had to caution them.

"There is nothing else at the time being, and we should be ready to head out soon." Coulson then looked at Doctor Orlova and took a moment to try and remember whom was on the mission. He did not exactly remember whom was on the mission, but after a few seconds he remembered the name of the team leader, one Julian Reynolds. Coulson never did work with Reynolds before, but from the information he had it seemed Reynolds was a decent agent. "I cannot exactly remember the exact composition of the missing team at the time being, but the team leader was a Agent Julian Reynolds." Coulson replied in response to Doctor Orlova's question.

"Natasha, Clint, when we are on the ground, if you think anything is wrong, I want you to pull back immediately, we are not going to take any risks for this mission, we already lost one team too many." Coulson once again cautioned the duo, he trusted their skills and capabilities, but at the same time he was not willing to risk their lives until they had a better understanding of the situation, losing one team was bad enough, losing a second would cause this whole thing to be a disaster that Coulson was not even willing to contemplate for the time being.

Gone Dark // Coulson, Svetlana, Natasha, Clint Empty Re: Gone Dark // Coulson, Svetlana, Natasha, Clint

Post by Game-Master Wed Mar 11, 2015 9:48 pm

Svetlana's heart sunk right down to her feet, and her stomach knotted itself in such a way that even a sailor would be proud of. She bit her lip down hard to prevent a gasp from escaping her throat, tasting blood. Not trusting herself to speak, she nodded mutely, turning away from the team so they wouldn't see the tears that pricked her eyes. Swallowing the lump that had formed itself in her throat, she murmured a "call me when you need me" to Coulson and fled the room. Her heart beat frantically like a scared bird trying to escape its rib prison. Again she bit down on her lip, taking a shaky breath in. Surely Coulson was mistaken. It couldn't be Julian. Not her Julian at least. SHIELD had thousands upon thousands of agents on its payroll; surely there was another Julian Reynolds working for them. It was a common name after all.

She brought a shaky hand to brush the fringe from her eyes, before breaking out into a run. The longer she stood here, the higher chance there was that she would break down into tears right here and now. And she couldn't have that. She couldn't let Coulson or the rest of the team see her crying, for fear that they'd pull her from the mission. Which is the last thing she wanted; she needed to be on the team that saved Julian. And they had to save him. They just had to. Sveta wasn't sure what she'd do if they lost him, nor did she want to think about such a thing.

Drawing odd looks and murmurs as she fled to her office as if the devil was at her heels, Sveta slammed the office door down and sunk against the wall to the floor. Bringing her knees up to her chest, she buried her face in her arms, finally letting the dam of tears to break. Coulson's words that this was likely a recovery mission echoed in her ears and try as she might, she could not push them out. After what seemed like hours to her, she gave a final sob and gasped for much-needed air. Leaning her head back against the wall and closing her eyes, the brunette muttered a prayer under her breath. She wasn't a religious person, and she rarely ever prayed, but this seemed like a good time to try.

Back in Coulson's room, Natasha had caught Dr Orlova's sudden change in mood at the mention of the agent involved. She frowned, watching her flee the room, looking sideways at Clint for a second before turning her attention back to Coulson. She nodded at his words, but didn't reply, her mind too preoccupied with the events from earlier today and now this. She trusted her gut instinct and though she would never use it as an excuse to refuse a mission, she was very wary about the whole thing. It wasn't the fact that this was a recovery mission, or the fact that they were going into a country that was already ravaged by war where they certainly wouldn't be welcome. There was something else, but Natasha couldn't place her finger on what that something was. All she had was her gut feeling.

She tuned into the conversation just as Coulson had stopped talking. She glanced sideways and seeing that Clint was nodding and speaking in affirmative to whatever it was the senior agent had said, Natasha nodded too. She figured it was something along the lines of 'be careful, don't endanger yourselves'. She'd ask Clint later anyways. "Call us as soon as you're ready, Agent Coulson," Natasha said, standing up. "We should go get ready." As she turned, she caught her partner's eye, trouble flitting through them.

When the door to Coulson's office had closed quietly behind them, and Natasha had made sure that no other agents were passing this way who could overhear, she stopped nibbling on the inside of her lip and looked at Clint. "Something's wrong," she stated simply. "Something's not right with this mission." She ran a hand through her hair and let out a long sigh, a look of unwilling acceptance settling on her features. She reached out to touch Clint's hand and squeezing it for the briefest of moments before dropping it, the gesture more to reassure herself that everything was going to be ok rather than to reassure him. "C'mon, let's go. We have to go get our boys back."
